Metal Roof Treatment & Insulation – Karam & Rizk Basic Education School

EMC carried out treatment, rehabilitation, and insulation works for the metal roof of Karam & Rizk Basic Education School in Damietta, for the General Authority for Educational Buildings, covering a total area of 600 m².

The works included treating deteriorated sections, securing roof joints, sealing openings, and reinforcing vulnerable areas, followed by Polyurethane Foam application to create a continuous thermal and waterproofing layer and two acrylic protective coats.

Scope of Work

  • Roof inspection and identification of damaged and vulnerable areas.

  • Securing and tightening joints between metal roof sheets.

  • Cutting and removal of severely corroded and deteriorated sections.

  • Installation and fixing of new metal patches in damaged areas.

  • Reinforcement of joints and vulnerable areas using fiberglass.

  • Sealing of large openings using pre-sprayed Polyurethane Foam sections.

  • Roof washing and cleaning before insulation application.

  • Spray application of Polyurethane Foam across the entire roof.

  • Formation of a continuous, seamless thermal and waterproofing layer.

  • Measurement and verification of the required foam thickness.

  • Application of the first acrylic coat for UV protection.

  • Application of the second acrylic protective coat.

  • Final inspection of the completed insulation system.

  • Completion and handover of the treated and insulated roof.

Case Study

The Challenge

The main challenge was severe corrosion and deterioration across sections of the metal roof, including holes, damaged sheets, and weakened connections between panels, creating potential paths for rainwater ingress and heat transfer.

The Solution

Roof joints were secured, deteriorated areas were treated, and severely damaged sections were replaced. Vulnerable areas were reinforced with fiberglass and large openings were sealed before applying Polyurethane Foam, verifying its thickness, and completing the system with two acrylic protective coats.

The Result

Damaged areas of the metal roof were treated and rehabilitated, with openings sealed and vulnerable joints reinforced, followed by a continuous thermal and waterproofing layer with additional UV and weather protection.
